Arthritis Pain Treatment

There’s no cure for the chronic pain that has characteristics of arthritis, but there is good news for the 30 percent of Americans who suffered from the disease. There is 6 number of arthritis pain treatments available that can help you minimize the discomfort immediately.

  1. A simple chronic arthritis pain treatment is over the counter medications. Some commonly available OTCs for pain include Aspirin, Advil, and Tylenol. Because Ibuprofen, the active ingredient in Advil combines pain relief and anti-inflammatory action, it may be the preferred choice for arthritis pain.
  2. Your best bet is a liquid gel capsule. According to a meta-analysis by the National Institutes of Health, ingested gel capsule has been found to increase joint cartilage and can help reduce symptoms of arthritis.
  3. Another great way to smooth aching joints is to apply liniments like tiger balm to painful areas. If you can’t, have someone else apply the cream for you.
  4. Many people who suffer from arthritis pain find that the heat and ice treatment works wonders. To try these therapy at home, begin by applying ice to a new pain or recent injury. Get the maximum benefit from ice by applying at the painful area 2 or 3 times a day, for 15 minutes at a time. Repeat this treatment for 24 hours, always removing ice after 15 minutes as it reaches maximum efficacy at that point. Like ice, warm can continue to provide benefits over time. After 24 hours of ice treatment, apply moist heat to an injury, either in the shower or with the heating bed for up to 30 minutes. After 48 hours, begin using heat and ice in sequence. As a general rule, apply heat in the morning, before any physical activity. Switch to ice in the evening, after exercise.
  5. A great natural way for dull arthritis pain is by focusing on breathing in a slow, controlled rhythm. Start by inhaling deeply through your nose, holding your breath for 3 counts. Exhale fully by contracting your stomach. Continue breathing this way for at least 3 minutes. It may seem simple, for proper breathing can provide fast, effective pain relief. That’s because controlled breath shifts your mind’s attention away from pain and the body responds to it.
  6. You can increase the benefits of your breathing exercises by engaging in visual imagery. Try imagining your breath as a way of healing light. Envision light flowing into your head and down your spine, and then upward to the rest of your body. This technique will calm you and help you focus on healing. Although there’s currently no cure for arthritis, these tips can make a world of difference in the chronic pain caused by the disease.
