Many famous freedom fighters such as Veer Savarkar and Batukeshwar Dutt were jailed here during the struggle for independence of India. However, today this complex is a national memorial monument and a popular tourist place.

Mahatma Gandhi Marine National Park (MGMNP)

Established on May 24, 1983 (under the Wildlife Protection Act of 1972), this national park is located in Wandoor on the Andaman Islands. It was built for the protection of marine life such as the corals and nesting sea turtles, which is rampant in this area. Located at a distance of around 29 km from Port Blair, this park covers over 281.5 square kilometers, which is made up of 15 islands and the open sea creeks running through the area.
