Dakshineswar Mandir is one of the most popular temples in Kolkata. Architecturally, it is also one of the largest temples in Kolkata. The architectural technique which was used in order to build the temple is Nava-Ratna style. The height of the temple at the highest point is over 100 feet. The courtyard of the temple is pretty wide and consist of other small temples. The temple was constructed in 1855. Rani Rasmani constructed this temple of Goddess Kali after instructions from her in a dream. The temple has been pretty famous all over the world and receives tourists from not only the entire country but from abroad as well.

The grandeur of the temple was unmatched at the time when it was constructed. Owing to the numerous shrines in the temple, it was frequented by almost all the natives on a regular basis at that point of time. This led it to be one of the most popular temples of Kolkata during that era and it is still able to attract thousands of visitors from India as well as the world who visit the temple to seek the blessings of Goddess Kali. The temple is one of the main tourist places which people often visit in Kolkata. Getting there:

Dakshineswar mandir is at a distance of 20 km from the city center of Kolkata. However, it is pretty well connected. You can easily take a cab and reach the temple. It is on the banks of river Hooghly.

History of the temple:

Dakshineswar Mandir was constructed in the village of Dakshineswar over a plot of 25-acres. The construction of the temple started in 1847 and it took 8 years of hard work to complete the temple. It was completed in 1855. Pointing to the fact that it is spread over 25 acres, it is one of the largest temples in not only Kolkata but all over India as well.

The temple consists of multiple shrines. The total number of sphires in the temple is 9. The total number of shrines in the temple is 12. Due to this, you can be sure that it is one of the biggest temples which you would explore in the city.
