History Behind

The name Dona Paula has been derived from a Portuguese figure and is historically famous. It is named after the daughter of the viceroy of Jaffnapatnam, Paula Amaral. She married Dom Antonio, a fidalgo of Spain. The entire family was very royal and rich. Previously the village was known as Oddavell. As Dona Paula loved to serve poor people and helped the local villagers for their improvement. In the year 1682 after her death, the villagers decide to rename the village with the name of Dona Paola. There is also a beautiful beach named as Dona Paula Beach and it has a myth that Dona Paula could still be seen coming out of the waves on a moonlight night wearing a pearl necklace. The Cabo Raj Bhavan also has much historical importance. After the Portuguese rule ended, the place became a fashionable area.

And the nearest airport is the Dabolim Airport which is 32 km from the beach. Car and buses are available from there to reach the beach. So you can see that it is very easy to reach there as every facility is located nearby.
