Kolkata Sightseeing

Kolkata is labeled as the city of Joy. It is also known as the cultural capital of India. Kolkata has a distinctive culture as compared to some of the other cities in India. It has kept intact its unique identity over decades. When you’re heading over to Kolkata, there are plenty of places which you can explore. We would today share with you a few tourist attractions which you should definitely include in your Kolkata Sightseeing tour.

Victoria Memorial:

The construction of Victoria Memorial started in 1906 and continued till 1921. It was a monument which was dedicated to Queen Victoria. Currently, it is a medium which houses art of that era and is maintained by the Ministry of the culture of West Bengal.

Fort William:

This fort was built during the early years of British arriving in India. It is one of the most prominent tourist attractions on the Kolkata Sightseeing tour. It is built on the river banks of river Hooghly. During that period of time, it was considered as the impenetrable fort of Britishers. Currently, however, the ground of the fort is being used as a park and is the largest park in the entire city.

Howrah bridge:

This is one such structure which is always associated with Kolkata. It runs over the river Hooghly in West Bengal. The architecture of the bridge is based on the cantilever architecture. Even though it has been around for quite some period of time but it is still going strong. It is one of the busiest bridges in the entire state.

Belur Mutt:

It is the headquarters of the mission which was founded by Swami Vivekananda. The name of the mission is Ramakrishna Mission. This is another architecture which is situated on the banks of river Hooghly. The temple is still maintained by the Ramakrishna Mission. The architecture of the temple has a confluence of the Hindu architecture as well as Christian and Islamic architecture. The temple was built as a symbol of unity among the different religions in India at that point of time.

Mother house:

This is the Tomb of Mother Teresa and is maintained by the missionaries and her followers. It is a world-renowned tourist attraction.
