Where is Mount Abu?

Nakki Lake is the first thing you will hear of as you arrive at Mount Abu. The hill station is beautifully set around this lake. The lake also boasts of being the highest (1200 m) artificial lake in the country. No wonder, the lake is the center of most activities at Abu as well.

The town is home to a number of Jain and Hindu temples. The most famous among these is the Dilwara Temples. These marble temples were completed between the 11th and 13th centuries. The rugged exterior and the richly decorated interior is a contrast in itself. There are marble images of 24 JianTeerthankars, canopied by richly engraved marble.

Gaumukh Temple

The Gaumukh is yet another attraction of the place, both for the tourists and the devotees. The temple is dedicated to Lord Vashistha. The temple is named after a carved image of a cow that stands here. The temple complex is open from sunrise till sunset, remaining closed only in the afternoon.

Mount Abu Wildlife Sanctuary

At a distance of 8 km from the town lies the Mount Abu Wildlife Sanctuary. The inmates of the sanctuary include Langurs, Leopard, Chinkara, Sloth Bear, Sambar Deer, Chital Deer, Wild Boar, etc. There are around 250 species of birds and 500 species of plants here.

The celebrated Nakki Lake offers fabulous boating options to tourists and visitors. It’s best if you set out early morning. There are rowboats, motorboats, and boats shaped like swans.
