How to make money online as a freelance travel blogger

Intro.

Anyone who starts a travel blog will start to think of ways of making their blog a success. One of the most popular keyword searches is how to make money online and this is a guide on how to make money online as a travel blogger.

I’ve been a freelance writer for the last 3 months, so I’m not an expert in this field yet! I’m going to share with you some of the things that have worked and some of the things that have not worked so far. The best ways to make money and how to make money online.

Upwork

Upwork- Freelance travel blogger

I’ve had some moderate success with Upwork, 12 different clients in 10 weeks, and $1500 accrued in payments. The site is hit and misses with acquiring contracts, and a lot of low-paying crap jobs to avoid too. I’m mainly writing in the travel niche, but I write Google SEO fodder articles if they pay ok. I learned quite early how important it is to make sure that everything is 100% copy free and factually correct, the last thing you want to do is lose a client over poor work. This is one of the best ways to make money online.

Freelancer

Freelancer

I not sure how many jobs I applied for on Freelancer, but I never get them. If you have no positive feedback then it’s harder getting a client on this site. The big problem with Freelancer is that it’s full of low paying crap and people who bid low to get the low paying crap. One to avoid unless you are from a third world country!

Guru

I’ve tried Guru a couple of times, nothing much on there, and seem to be a few scam clients from what I can see.

People Per Hour

People Per Hour

I found it hard to get a contract on People Per Hour without any feedback, so I’ve only used this site a couple of times.

Fiverr

I’ve got 2 gigs on Fiverr at the moment and had my first hire today, sadly the client did not buy any extras, boo! My gig is 400 words for $5, others on Fiverr were offering 500 to 700 words for $5, too many words and not enough $$$ for me!

Other sources of writing jobs

When it comes to writing jobs there are lots of sites to choose from, bidding sites like Upwork, Freelancer, Guru, and People Per Hour. There are fixed-price sites like Copify, iWriter, Textbroker, and CopyPress, and the rates vary depending on your experience level.

Resources

The best sources that I have found for writing jobs and how you should approach the bidding or pitching process are two eBooks. The eBooks in question are Steven King’s excellent new eBook Freelance Yourself and A Farang Abroad’s eBook Make Money Living in Thailand. I have bought both eBooks and they have helped me massively in my early freelance writing career.

How about some more digital nomad eBooks, travel blogger top 10 maybe? This article from Wanderlust has some great advice for a travel blogger and on how to make money online.

Before you can start freelancing and making money with your travel blog you may need some tips and how to start a travel blog. I do have affiliate marketing adverts on this site, Thai Friendly and SEO Pressor these are all new and hopefully will be a small side income in time.
