Top Camping Essentials this Summer
One of the best ways to enjoy the outdoors is by camping. If you have never gone camping before, the first thing you will want to do becomes familiar with the essential items you will need. A quick way to do this would be to go camping with somebody who has gone before. You will be able to learn quickly from them. Your basics needs will be shelter, bed, food, and utensils.
If it’s your first time, you should probably start out with a tent unless you own an RV. You don’t need to spend a lot on a tent, just make sure it’s of good quality because you want to make sure it will keep water out.
A moderately-priced sleeping bag shouldn’t be too hard to find either. Make sure you store your camping supplies in a dry safe place and perform any required maintenance on them and they should last you a long time. 3
As far as food materials, depending on how long you’re going for, you may need nothing more than a cooler, charcoal, and a spatula. Cooking outdoors can be quite enjoyable and it can be practiced in your own backyard before you actually go camping. So if you’re a backyard chef, you already have lots of recipes to try at the campground. If cooking is not really your thing, you will be just fine with a cooler of drinks, simple sandwiches, and snacks. If you are using a public campground, most of them come equipped with a picnic table and a grill at each site. With your charcoal and spatula, you can make steaks, hamburgers, or hot dogs on the grill. If you want to get a little more involved, you can bring a small propane stove and cook up stovetop meals as well. If you are really serious can even bake at your campsite with a Dutch oven but don’t forget to bring Cold Steel Knives since it’s an all-around knife for your cooking preparation.
Making a bed at your campground is pretty simple. You will need some sort of padding first so soften your bed from the ground. You can get an air mattress or a simply closed-cell pad that will work just fine. On top of whatever pad you use you will place your sleeping bag. If it’s your first time, go in the summer and you shouldn’t require a heavy and expensive down sleeping bag. If you get too warm at night you can always just sleep on top of it. Don’t forget a comfy pillow either.
One of the most essential things you can do before you go camping is to make a checklist of items you want to bring. Be sure to check out The Blade Shop to see updated and discounted lists of camping gears. It’s very easy to forget little items like your toothbrush or a can opener. Make a list of all of your gear and refer to it each time you go camping. After you have a couple of trips under your belt, you can revise your list as you go.
