The Vazhachal waterfalls are found in the southwestern coast of India in the district of Thrissur in the state of Kerala. It is a decent fall near Athirapally. You can visit the place anytime as the region is not so much crowded and the roadway from Athirapally to Vazhachal is very beautiful with picturesque scenery. It is located at a distance of 5 kilometres from Kochi and is fast-flowing falls originating from the river Calakudi. The locality is very clean and you can find a herbal garden on the way that houses some medicinal plants.

About Vazhachal waterfalls

This place is a family favourite due to the greeneries all around the falls with varieties of endemic species. This place is the only surviving place for the endangered species of hornbill. Many vibrant and rare species of birds can be spotted y bird lovers. There are arrangements made by the DTPC like restaurants, snack bars, bathing ghat, parking areas, washrooms, a Chinese pavilion and many more facilities. You must be careful to climb up the slippery rocks as the zone is dangerous. It is not recommended to visit the falls after the evening. The location is very neat and clean and it is well-maintained by the forest department. It feels awesome to walk along the flowing river. The place is really majestic with a natural feeling environment.

Jungle safari

Jungle safari is managed on daily basis by Athirapiily Destination Management Council and Thrissur District Tourism Council. The safari is organised from Chalakudy to Malakkappara. The country’s best efforts to conserve elephants could be seen here. The safari takes a time of one to two hours for making you visit the jungle and watching the wildlife there. There are benches around the Vazhachal waterfall where you can sit and spend your ample time. The view of the Vazhachal waterfalls is so eye-catching that you can spend hours sitting there. Though there s no rigid timings yet you are recommended to visit there in the daytime.

Reaching there

Chalahudi is the nearest railway station located 30 km from the spot and the nearest airport is Cochin airport which is 50 km from Thrissur. Public autos are available at the spot and private cars can also be used to reach the place.

There are many suitable and comfortable hotels nearby the tourist location with good amenities and helpful service. Among the number of hotels, the popular ones are Rain forest resort, hotel Ceaser palace, Hydel Palace and hotel Roshan. The hotel authority is very serving and you can get information and services to nearby sightseeing from their side. If you want they can arrange cab facilities to nearby railway station or airport.
