The suburb of Panaji has a beautiful village named Dona Paula that serves as a tourist destination. The famous National Institute of Oceanography and the luxurious Cidade de Goa lie here that makes it more attractive. The popular Raj Bhavan is also located here near La Marvel colony. It is the most expensive region in the whole Goa where the wealthy policy makers and industrialists live. The name of Dona Paula has been derived from a Portuguese figure and is historically famous. It is named after the daughter of the viceroy of Jaffnapatnam, Paula Amaral. She married Dom Antonio, a fidalgo of Spain. The entire family was very royal and rich. Previously the village was known as Oddavell. As Dona Paula loved to serve poor people and helped the local villagers for their improvement. In the year 1682 after her death, the villagers decide to rename the village with the name of Dona Paola. There is also a beautiful beach named as Dona Paula Beach and it has a myth that Dona Paula could still be seen coming out of the waves on a moonlight night wearing pearl necklace. The Cabo Raj Bhavan also has much historical importance. After the Portuguese rule ended, the place became a fashionable area.
The beach of Dona Paula is a famous destination and during pick season, the place is seen crowded with lots of tourist but otherwise the beach stays calm and beautiful. If you arrive there on monsoon then you can enjoy the peaceful and calm beach. After the shooting of the film, Ek Duje Ke Liye on the beach, the place became more famous. Also a small action part of movie, SIngham was shot here. At a distance of 1 km from the spot, the confluence of river Mandovi and Zuari with Arabian Sea is seen making it an ideal tourist spot. One of the most attractive features of the beach is the statue in white seen near the jetty on a rock. As said by Goa Tourism Board the statues are of Mother India one is Young and the other is Mother. There is also the wheel of Ashoka in the middle that presents ancient culture.

Panaji bus stand is just at a distance of 6 km from the beach. Kadamba Transport Corporation and other buses ply from here to other distant places. Karmali railway station is the nearest rail head located at a distance of 14 km from the beach. Other rail stations are Vasco Da Gama and Margao near the Dona Paula Beach. And the nearest airport is the Dabolim Airport which is 32 km from the beach. Car and buses are available from there to reach the beach. So you can see that it is very easy to reach there as every facility is located nearby.
Dona Paula is a popular romantic as well as an adventures destination where you can enjoy as your own. So visiting this wonderful beach is a must to get the real essence of Goa.
