  1. Exercise More

Going to the gym might be the last thing you feel like doing after a long, hard day at work. Many people just feel too tired to exercise; however, if this sounds like you it is probably time to re-think your strategy. Mental tiredness and physical tiredness are two entirely different things. If you can overcome your mental fatigue and get some exercise the chances are that you will feel much more energized. Even if you just manage to go for a long walk or cycle in the evening you will find that this can have a dramatic effect on your energy levels. Exercise boosts endorphins, which help you feel good, and increasing your level of fitness will certainly increase your energy levels too.

  1. Get Enough Sleep

It sounds obvious but the vast majority of people simply do not get enough sleep. If you find it difficult to drop off early enough in the evening try having a bath an hour or so before you go to bed. Avoid caffeine after lunch as it can take several hours for stimulants to leave your system and this can interfere with a good night’s sleep. You want to keep your bedroom as free from distractions as possible, so get rid of the TV and create a sleep sanctuary instead. What you eat can have a profound effect on your energy levels too. If you consume a lot of processed carbohydrates it will make you feel sluggish. Try swapping your foods for healthier, home-cooked alternatives and you will certainly see your energy levels rise. If you can’t be bothered to cook remember that eating raw foods will ensure that more of the nutrients are retained, so try to eat one meal a day made entirely of uncooked fruit and vegetables. If you are one of those people who reach for a chocolate bar when you are tired, stop right now. After an energy rush there is inevitably a crash, so eating sugary foods will actually deplete your energy levels further.

Drinking plenty of water will help your body flush out the toxins that make you feel tired. Aim to drink around 2 or 3 liters a day for optimum benefits. It is ironic that when people feel tired they tend to chill out in front of the television; however, this could be making the problem worse. Turn it off and spend your time eating well and exercising instead and you could find that your energy levels improve dramatically.
